Writing Winning Answers
The Writing Winning Answers workshop by Shipleywins is designed to help proposal contributors develop the skills to write clear, structured, and high-scoring responses to bid and tender questions.
In many organisations, proposal writing is not a full-time role.
As a result, contributors often rely on experience rather than a consistent method—leading to answers that may be unclear, incomplete, or misaligned with what evaluators are looking for.
This hands-on training introduces a practical, step-by-step approach to writing effective responses that are both customer-focused and easy to evaluate. Participants learn how to interpret questions properly, understand the intent behind them, and respond in a way that maximises scoring potential.
At the core of the workshop is a proven five-step writing process that ensures consistency and clarity across all proposal content:
- Plan responses by breaking tasks into manageable steps
- Organise ideas and information into a clear structure
- Write concise, persuasive drafts aligned with customer needs
- Examine responses through peer review to improve effectiveness
- Revise content to ensure clarity, focus, and impact
Throughout the course, participants will:
- Understand how to interpret questions and evaluation criteria to improve scoring
- Structure answers so they are easy for evaluators to read and assess
- Use techniques such as storyboarding to plan strong responses
- Improve clarity, consistency, and focus in written answers
- Apply a repeatable approach that works under time pressure
The workshop also emphasises learning by doing. Participants actively develop and refine their own responses, receive feedback, and improve their writing over multiple iterations...ensuring the skills can be applied immediately in real bid situations.
By the end of the training, participants walk away with a practical, structured method for writing winning answers—helping their teams improve proposal quality, increase evaluation scores, and ultimately win more business.
